Portrait in a Green Scarf

About the painting

A deep green scarf surrounds the face, creating a broad, sweeping frame against the light canvas. Dark hair, a steady gaze and warm color in the cheeks give the portrait its focus.

Visible brushwork carries the scarf around the head and beneath the chin. The contrast between these broad strokes and the more closely observed features brings together the texture of the paint and the presence of the sitter.
